1- What is the Campbell Test?

The Campbell Test is an evaluation given to dogs when they are puppies, to find out what their behavior and character will be like as adults. It is not something you can rely on completely, but it does provide results that may be useful in the future.

It is applied to puppies between seven and nine weeks of age, it must be done in a place that is quiet for the puppy, where there is nothing that exalts him like other animals and toys, or something that frightens him, only the evaluator and the animal must be present.

It is a very simple test, but if the puppy is startled, there can be misinterpretations, that is why it is necessary to perform it in the right conditions.

2- Campbell test for puppies

The Campbell Test for puppies are five simple tests that are performed on your puppy to obtain clues as to what his character will be like when he is an adult dog.

They are simple and safe tests, which are:

Human attraction.
You have to stand in front of the puppy and call him with gentle pats, here are five options:

1.- He comes happily to the call.

2.- He comes easily.

3.- He comes with doubts.

4.- First he hesitates and then he comes.

5.- He does not come.

2-1 Following the human

We place ourselves next to the dog and walk slowly, we invite him to follow us, the following options are presented:

1.- Follow the person with contentment.

2.- Follow the person with ease.

3.- He follows the person with doubts.

4.- He hesitates, but follows the person.

5.- Does not follow the person.

2-3 Submission

Now we put him on the floor and hold him gently, keeping the puppy that way for about twenty or thirty seconds. The following alternatives are presented:

1.- He does not stay still and growls.

2.- He does not stay still, but does not growl.

3.- It fights at first, but it becomes still in a short time.

4.- He is frightened and does not move.

5.- It is left without inconvenience, even plays.

2-4 Manipulation

5.- Lies down and allows everything.

We take the puppy and raise it one meter from the ground for about twenty or thirty seconds, the following behaviors are presented:

1.- He does not allow himself to be lifted, his moves and growls.

2.- He moves but does not growl.

3.- It moves but gives up.

4 .- Allows movement, moves slowly.

5.- Allows to be lifted without problem.

3- Campbell Test for adult dogs

The Campbell Test is not performed on adult dogs, only on puppies.
